Students will get their class schedule at registration. It's a good idea to practice walking through the schedule so they know where all their classes are. Students will not have the same teachers all day like they do at the elementary schools. Instead, students will switch teachers and classrooms at Ingersoll Middle School. They might have one teacher a couple times a day. There are two teams: Novas and Patriots. If a student is a Nova, they will have all Nova teachers, and if they are a Patriot, they will have all Patriot teachers. All Nova teachers are in the same hallway, and all Patriots are in the same hallway, so it is easy for students to find their classes. Occasionally, students will have to go to a different hallway for a class, but most of the time all their classes and teachers are all right next to each other. The only time fifth graders will need to go across the building is for lunch, PE, and Encore classes.

Why are there different teams?
Having teams is part of the Middle School Concept. Each grade has two different teams, and kids on each team share those teachers. For example, all Nova students will have all Nova teachers, and Patriot students will have all Patriot teachers. This helps create a smaller family inside a big school. The teachers also have the opportunity to better coordinate their instruction.
How are the teams picked?
The computer randomly picks the teams. One team is not better than the other.
What are the Encore classes?
Encore classes include Be Awesome, Art/STEM, music, and study skills. Students will learn more about each of these classes once they get here! Each fifth grader will have one Encore class each quarter, eventually taking every Encore class by the end of the year.
Do fifth graders have to change for PE?
No, students do not change into PE clothes in fifth grade, but they must have tennis shoes.

During TAP, students will learn about many topics that are not covered in their academic classes, such as handling their emotions, bullying, how to deal with conflict appropriately, and what good study habits looks like. Students will conference with their TAP teacher and learn how to build positive relationships. Students will have social-emotional lessons that teach them how to handle their emotions and deal with conflict. TAP classes will also do several team building activities that teach them how to work together as well. There is no grade for TAP class.
